How to rewrite selected text with Transforms

Open Transforms in Walkie's sidebar and turn it on. Then select text in any app and press Option-1 to Option-5 on a Mac (Alt-1 to Alt-5 on Windows, Ctrl-Alt-1 to Ctrl-Alt-5 on Linux). Walkie replaces your selection with the rewrite. Option-1 runs Polish (clearer and more concise, same meaning), Option-2 runs Prompt Engineer (turns a rough request into a clear prompt for an AI), and the other shortcuts run transforms you write yourself. To put the original back, use undo in that app. Transforms are in beta, on the desktop app, from Walkie Pro upward.

Turn Transforms on

  1. Open Walkie and click Transforms in the sidebar.
  2. Click Turn on Transforms. While Transforms are on, their shortcuts belong to Walkie in every app, so they stop typing the characters they usually would.

Rewrite something

  1. Select the text you want to change, in any app: an email, a chat message, a document, a box on a web page.
  2. Press the shortcut for the transform you want.
  3. Walkie replaces the selection with the rewrite. It pastes the new text over your selection in one go, so a single undo in that app brings the original back.

Windows: Alt-1 to Alt-5.Keyboard shortcut: Alt plus 1
Linux: Ctrl-Alt-1 to Ctrl-Alt-5. Ctrl is added on Linux because Alt and a number already switches tabs in many browsers and terminals.Keyboard shortcut: Ctrl plus Alt plus 1

The two built-in transforms

ShortcutTransformWhat it does
1PolishClearer and more concise, same meaning. “lets move the deadline to next friday if thats ok with everyone” becomes “Let's move the deadline to next Friday, if that works for everyone.”
2Prompt EngineerTurns a rough request into a clear prompt for your AI. “email the team about the offsite” becomes a full instruction to write a short, friendly email announcing the offsite.

Shortcuts 3, 4 and 5 run the transforms you create yourself, in the order you made them. See How to create your own transform.

See what changed

After a transform, See what's changed appears just above Walkie's overlay. Click it to see every word that was taken out or added, and to copy the result. It stays until you close it.

Limits

  • Up to 12,000 characters at a time, roughly 2,000 words.
  • One transform at a time. Pressing another shortcut while one is running does nothing.
  • Transforms are part of the desktop app on Mac, Windows and Linux. They are not in the iPhone or Android apps.

Frequently asked questions about how to rewrite selected text with Transforms

Which plan includes Transforms?

Walkie Pro and every plan above it. There is no free allowance or trial for Transforms. They are in beta.

How do I undo a transform?

Use undo in the app where you made it, for example Cmd-Z on a Mac or Ctrl-Z on Windows and Linux. The rewrite went in as one paste, so one undo puts your original text back.

Nothing happened when I pressed the shortcut. Why?

Usually nothing was selected: Walkie shows “Select some text first, then press the shortcut”. Also check that Transforms are turned on, that the shortcut has a transform on it (shortcuts 3 to 5 are empty until you create your own), and that you are signed in when using Cloud Mode.

Does Walkie keep the text I transform?

Walkie's cloud does not store the text after it sends the rewrite back. In On-Device Mode the text never leaves your computer. See What leaves your device.
