Choosing a Read Aloud voice

Open Settings → Read Aloud to browse and preview voices. Walkie has over 950 voices across more than 30 languages, and each one can be previewed instantly before you choose it. Changing the voice mid-read picks up where you left off rather than restarting.

Preview and choose a voice

  1. Open Settings → Read Aloud.
  2. Browse the voice list and click any voice to hear a preview.Previews always play at normal speed, regardless of the reading speed you have set.
  3. Select the voice you want. It becomes the default for new reads.

Changing voice during a read

You can change voice from the reading panel while something is playing. Walkie picks up from where you were rather than starting the document again.

Languages

Voices are available in more than 30 languages. Walkie does not translate — a voice reads the text it is given, so choose a voice whose language matches your document. Reading English text with a French voice produces English words in a French accent.

Reading speed

Playback speed is set from 1× to 2× on the reading panel, and is remembered between reads. Speed affects reading only; it does not change voice previews or Quick Ask answers.
